Let’s get into this luxe facial cleansing device (also read: fancy) Clarisonic Mia Smart 3-in-1. Also known as the new & improved Mia Smart 2, which I didn’t think was the most amazing device to begin with but we are here, with a new smart device that’s compatible with all Clarisonic heads and pairs with a really cool app.
Being a fan of the Clarisonic brand of cleansing devices for nearly a decade I thought it was time for an updated device, plus I couldn’t find my older one after the move. Of course I found it after the fact but at the time it was it convenient to get a new device. If I had to describe this device it would be the necessary expected update. At one point Clarisonic had so many devices on the market I stepped back like “what the hell is going on?” There was the Mia 1, Mia 2, a couple anti-aging massaging devices, a handle-less styled device, some which come in multiple colors and brush head options. Doing the most if you ask me. I couldn’t imagine having so many devices taking up counter space or travel bags for daily use. I struggle just maintaining a regular routine. I didn’t think they wouldn’t continue making more devices and sure enough they started scaling back in the right direction.
Settings, routines, and intensity
Clarisonic nailed it! Skin care is a roller coaster for some of us and we need a build up, climax, and slow down. Not only do you get the option to start slow to build up the intensity over the span of 2 weeks. You also get 7 customizable cleansing routines (plus 2 more for beaded/ shaven men), how-to videos, and reminders. Everything is tracked in the app. It doesn’t take up much data/ battery life and since I usually keep my phone’s bluetooth off, I only sync after every use.
What about the battery life
The Mia Smart 3-in-1 holds a charge forever! Kidding, but for real… a couple weeks or longer. My device hasn’t dropped below 65% so I just put it on the charger every 2-3 weeks. This is a good time to note my old device held a charge just as strong just as well.
So do I see a difference with my skin?
Manual cleansing doesn’t feel thorough after you’ve used a Clarisonic. I’ve used a handful of cleansing devices, some with similar technology but always return. In fact after you do a manual cleanse and use the Clarisonic you see a lot of leftover gray and brown dirt you’ve missed. It’s tricky remembering the timing of the zones but with daily use you’ll remember it in no time. I customized my daily routine to add more time for my nose and chin areas. There’s also a setting to do a daily cleanse so you don’t have to change your routine or switch back easier.
Remember, let the device do its job. It does not feel heavy in the hand. Be delicate without pressing the brush head or applying pressure. I typically rinse my face with warm water, apply (spread) my face cleanser, complete a routine with the Clarisonic, then rinse. Now rather I do that first or second depends on my level of laziness and if I wore makeup that day.
- Flimsy feeling charging base, but you won’t use it often. I wouldn’t call it cheap but it feels lightweight.
- How-to videos play music instead a voiceover which would help not only visually impaired but anyone doing a timed multi-zone cleansing with soap in their eyes.
- Dates/ history missing from tracker
Keep basic dye free antibacterial hand soap nearby to thoroughly clean and rinse your brush head after every use. I get the $3-4 jugs from Walmart and use it to wash my Daily Radiance brush head. Once a week I let it air out by leaving the cap off and clean and sanitize.
Speaking of the Daily Radiance Brush Head the inclusion of silicone nibs seem with bristles seems to be the perfect wave. It is a noticable difference from the previous brush heads I’ve used and pulls out even more dirt.
