How the late night Reebok x Kendrick Lamar 5k run in L.A. went down
Let’s just say this was one hell of L.A. night!
Last week I got an invite to join Reebok for what was described as a “fun night of fitness and music”, with more details to follow. I’m curious by nature and decided ‘hey why not, it’s Reebok.” I’m not in the best shape but I’m always down to push myself and ready for a good time. So I did some snooping days before the event and came across a tweet that mentioned Kendrick Lamar would be teaming up with Reebok for something “huge”. Reebok’s official Twitter account even retweeted it. I knew Kendrick would be evolved in the event but because everything was top secret and we were at a secret lotion AND our itinerary was vague to say the least (maybe even wrong to keep us out of the loop lol).
After stretching and warming up a few of us saw a tweet from Kendrick Lamar for people to meet him at an address at 9PM. Most of us were so confused but quickly put 2 and 2 together once a semi truck with a stage pulled up and the lights came on…. well so we thought. It was the surprise concert of the year! I say of the year because this it’s his first surprise concert. After the first verse of “Money Trees” the semi pulled off and the 5k run started. We had no clue it was a 5k run with a moving performance. Fans were coming out of every pocket of L.A, leaving restaurants, homes, cars to join the #getpump 5k run and catch the performance.
Once we made our way back to the Reebok Lab on Melrose he performed a couple of tracks from “To Pimp A Butterfly” which sent the crowd crazy.
