My boyfriend’s cousin told him about a new breakfast place called The Nest in Bellflower that was good, cheap, and *drum-roll please* owned by a young black guy. All the things we love! Just so you know how serious it is with us, we went to the restaurant the same day after running errands.
He does not do large restaurants and we both love a nice diner but The Nest has to be the cutest diner I’ve been to in a while. The service is stellar, the servers places orders and complete the payment transaction from iPad’s at the table, it has nice long bar area, and the food is really good. I was beyond impressed! We ordered the Breakfast Poutine which is a nice American twist on a classic poutine; home fries, sausage gravy, cheddar cheese, and topped with an egg. I could have gone with an extra egg and less potatoes but it was pretty good for under $8. It also came with a small plate (basically a side which run around $2 or less) so I got the house-made sausage which had a nice flavor and wasn’t salty like I’m used to. But I didn’t stop there. I got creamy grits, which I’m still on the fence about. They has a good coarse ground, cooked to perfection, and was really creamy but something was missing and I can’t put my finger on it. But let me tell you something… add them to the poutine like a savage and go to town. I also had a fried biscuit that was so good I ate half before I could snap the photo. It’s one of those things you have to try to really understand the love I have for it.
At the end of our meal co-owner of The Nest, Antonio Appling came and introduced himself to us and asked about our experience. It was nice to visit their Facebook page and see their story and get an understanding of the vision with the restaurant.
