Since summer is quickly approaching it’s time for me pay even more attention to these pits.  First I had to change my deodorant.  The aluminum in my traditional was  killing my pits; the mild burning was a pain and I switched brands that was making the entire area dark, right before my eyes.

It was tough but I made the decision to change to aluminum-free deodorant.  I was tough for a couple of reasons; I hate sweating under my arms and I have a really sensitive sense of smell.  I swear if I don’t apply deodorant with 3 minutes of getting out the shower, I’m musty!  A funky girl like myself has no business wearing natural deodorant… well so I thought.

I went with Tom’s of Maine after reading a few mixed reviews because it was convenient and a familiar brand.  I remember using their toothpaste a while ago.  I initially tried it after showering at night. I didn’t want to take any chances of funking up a room during the work day.  It passed the test but I did notice a cool sensation; not really a burning or tingle.  But I wasn’t funky and the lavender fragrance didn’t hurt either.  The next day it had to pass the stress test; a full day of work, running errands, and cooking dinner.  By the end of the day I was still fresh for the most part but can smell a little funk when I did the hand test.  Their 24 hour claim is a reach assuming you’re doing nothing more than sitting.  After

Pros:

Aluminum-free, good to consider if you’re concerned about cancer and dark underarms

After a week of simply changing deodorant my pits are noticeably lighter and I haven’t done any real exfoliating

Lavender fragrance – I am a sucker for lavender

Easy to find in most stores

Cons:

Doesn’t last 24hrs and most will have to reapply during the day

Some report burning and tingling, I experienced a cooling sensation for a few minutes

Blahs:

This isn’t an antiperspirant, so expect your body to release those toxins and sweat.

Many mixed reviews

Price: $4.19 (at Wal-Mart)
